Our One & Only....Birthday Boy!

Z celebrated his birthday....almost 3 months ago....wow I am really behind in all this!! Well at least I have pictures to help me remember details :o)

He wanted a "Sports" party...yes he is ALL boy. Since his birthday fell on a Sunday this year he had his party on Saturday, which began with a soccer game and then a few hours of nothing but play! That many boys together, well let's just say I was glad the weather had cooperated and it was a Bee-U-tiful day so what do you do with a lot of boys between the ages of 4-7?!?! Oh yeah....a bounce house :o)

I think they all had a lot of fun going crazy in that and making their own jerseys, and of course who can forget all the goodies, that's right...fill 'em full of sugar then send them home!

Dancing Queen

A started Ballet...FiNaLLy...back in January!! She absolutely loves to dance, in fact anything that involves music she loves. She performed in her first dance recital and was a NaTuRaL up there on stage :o)

She also had her Spring program in Preschool the same month...and yep loved the Singing!

Z played T-ball this summer...it was fun to watch how much he progressed from his first time playing (which was 2 years ago)! He is a NaTuRaL athlete! He was excited to have some of his cousins there to watch and cheer for him....atleast for a few games :o)

S celebrated her 2nd birthday...we hade lots of family in town so it was definitely a PaRtY!! This was the first time I bought the cake instead of making it...but she loved it anyway...mainly because Dora was on it....if you notice in 2 of the pictures...she almost couldn't wait to eat it :o)

Z recently finished his first season of soccer! His team was "Orange Crush." He had so much fun and the boys on his team played great together....on and off the field :o) He is definitely a natural Athlete! Now onto T-ball for the summer!!

A turned 4 in March...and wanted to have a Princess party (I know...surprise, surprise)!! She and 5 of her friends from church, school and ballet - played "Kiss the Frog Prince", danced to "Swan Lake", ate delicate finger foods, decorated their own Tiara and partied like true PrInCeSsEs. :o)

...From the ToothFairy! Yep, Z lost his first tooth. Sunday (10/24) he asked me if his mouth was bleeding, which is wasn't, that is when I realized why he asked. He was wiggling the tooth with his tongue. By the following Saturday (10/30) it was gone. He actually pulled it out himself :o)
BTW....what is the going rate for a tooth now-a-days?!

Can you believe Z turned 5?! As always, I am a bit behind...he actually celebrated back in September :o) He is such a blessing in our family. He has such a tender heart and loves everyone for who they are and everyone is his friend. He has so much energy, even when he gets home from school, I thought he would come home tired but this boy is my "Energizer Bunny" he just keeps going and going (wish I had even 1/4th of his energy)!! Friday before (24th) he was so excited to bring cupcakes to share with his Kindergarten class. Saturday morning, on his birthday (25th) opened presents and for lunch went to Chuck-E-Cheese, he invited his Friend along to join the fun and they ended up spending the whole day together. On Sunday (26th) we had some friends over for dinner, cake and to celebrate his birthday some more. It was such a fun weekend of Celebration :o)

I subscribe to the emails sent from the church called "Daily Gems" which is inspirational thoughts and quotes given by our church leaders. These are sent on a daily basis and I love reading them simply because of the strength and testimony it allows me to develop but what is so incredible about it all is how many times these simple emails have pertained to my personal experience(s) and situation(s).

We have had a rough few weeks with many challenges come our way all at once. On more than one occassion I have felt like crawling in a hole but remember that as long as I turn myself toward the Lord and turn everything over to him in Faith I will make it through, although it might be difficult to endure. I say this now because during the difficulty it has been hard for me to really recogninze His hand in it all but through little things, such as this quote...sent in an email, I am reminded that He IS mindful and ever present during these times and that He is allowing me to have situations that allow for growth in truly becoming like my Savior.

Labor Day Weekend

Since Mike was going to be gone for Labor Day weekend, the kids and I decided to pack up the car and drive to Pittsburgh to visit my sister and her cute kids!. My bro-in-law just start dental school and now that they are a lot closer than a 24 hour drive (8-10 hrs.) we will be able to visit more often!! I wasn't quite sure how long it would actually take since it was just me in the car to help with the kids needs....books, movies and food and we were good to go. Z had a small cooler packed in the back with him with all sorts of goodies and another cooler was up by me so I could help A & S. It was quite fun and tiring by the time we got back home but well worth the visit!!

County Fair

For the last 2 years we have gone to the County Fair with some friends, the Pence family, and it is kind of our tradition now. We always have a great time. This year the kids enjoyed being scientists and farmers! Not to mention riding their 1st roller coaster and listening/dancing @ their 1st concert :o)

School is back in session

Z started Kindergarten this year. I have mixed emotions about that. I am excited but today was hard to drop him off. He will be going from 8:30-3:20, yep no 1/2 day schedules here! Even though we will miss him during the day it will be good for him to be involved with other kids on a regular basis and not to mention all the learning he will be doing and fun he will be having. He has a great teacher, Ms. Smithson. She has been teaching Kindergarten for 32 years, she is wonderful and I know Z will grow to love her so much. He told me "Mom, I don't want you to take me, I want to ride the bus." So, this week I drove him but starting Monday he will get to ride the bus :o)

A started Preschool this week! She has two teachers, Ms. Laurel and Ms. Betsy. She is excited to be back and even more so because two kids from her class last year are with her again this year! She keeps asking, "When do I get to go to Kindergarten and ride the bus?" She wants to be big just like her brother. Her turn will come soon enough :o)

S is all over the place and tries to get where she is going quicker by running. She is also trying to use a spoon at the table but at times still decides her fingers work better :o)

Not only have the summer activities ended but we are also getting a little break in the weather....Finally!! We have enjoyed being outside riding bikes and playing at the park since it hasn't been too hot. The kids have been waiting a long time to be outside...fall is definitely around the corner.

So what to do with this extra time?...Well I will finally be able to put my jogging stroller to use!! Running at the park and of course since we're already there....play a little too!

Annual Beach Trip

We decided to go to NC to visit the fam....and of course when we go we like to make a trip to the beach! Talk about complete change (reaction wise) with the kids. They "loooved" the wind, waves and not to mention the sand. It definitely shows that my "babies" aren't so little anymore....they are growing up too fast!

My "Little One" celebrated her first birthday!! Can you believe it? Now she is a big girl" and is trying hard to keep up with her older brother and sister and she is not far behind them anymore....yep she has started walking and gets sooo excited when she walks from one end of the room or hallway to another and makes sure you are watching and cheering her on! Z & A are her biggest fans :o)
We decided to go to UT to celebrate her turning one with my family. On our way we stopped in CO and spent time with Mike's brother and family, went to the Zoo and hung out. While in UT the kids could not get enough of their cousins. We had so much planned to do together it is amazing they didn't get sick of each other. We played a ton in Papa & Mamo's backyard (the weather was Fantastic), swam in the hot tub, even set up a lemonade stand and did fun crafts & projects!!

On S's b-day we were able to see Mama Mae and spend time with her and other family and then we had a party to celebrate the big 1. Lots of presents, a pinata and her very own Elmo cake. She loved it and of course got good and messy (that's my girl!). When we sang to her she even blushed and shied away a little bit when opening her gifts. She is definitely my daughter....does not like to be the center of attention! ~Happy Birthday sweet Baby Girl - We Love You!~

We celebrated A's birthday a few weeks ago. She was so excited to be finally turning 3! She kept telling us that soon she would be 4 like her brother....not quite understanding the difference in age. She is quite the young lady. I say that because she is actually 2 (now 3) going on 16. My word if this is a preview of her teenage years, heaven help us :) I was once told that as parents we endure the "Terrible Two's" and then comes the "Trying Three's" Oh boy look out. She definitely has a mind of her own and don't try to change it. She keeps our lives interesting and oh how I love her so much!!!!

I am trying to catch up a little....Back in January Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's circus visited music city!! So we, along with some friends, decided to go. It has been years, I mean many years since I have been and for Mike and the kids it was a first! They loved it, well at least Z & A did, S just wanted to sleep but unfortunately we didn't have her carseat or stroller and she won't go to sleep in our arms...so I ended up pacing the halls near the end to try to get her to sleep. It is so great to have good friends to spend time together and enjoy fun activities as the circus!! Such talent...and I don't mean the people...the animals were incredible.

Baby It's Cold Outside!

Such an eventful week...ok the last 3 weeks! I say that because we have been "homebound" more or less with sickness, if it wasn't one of the kids it was me and then this weekend it finally caught up with Mike...Gotta love the winter months!

Despite all the sickness we've tried to have fun...in the snow that is. About 2-3 weeks ago we got some snow, unfortunately it was only a few centimeters but none-the-less the kids enjoyed it and of course here in the South they cancel school.

Thursday night was expected to bring lots of snow but Mother Nature decided to delay it a little. Around 9 o'clock Friday morning it began and did not end until Saturday morning, giving us about 4 inches. It started as a beautiful snow fall but then turned into sleet and freezing rain. When the snow was at it's best Mike & A were able to go out and play for a little bit the rest of us were getting over the stomach bug. Fortunately Saturday Z and I were feeling well enough to go out and build a snowman....well the snow was frozen solid from the rain and because it was sooo cold it remained frozen and quite slick. Because of safety....church was even cancelled. That has happened to us twice now, once here and once in NC. Everything has a layer of ice around it, I tried to take some pictures of the tree branches. Although it is cold and we are stuck indoors it is really quite beautiful looking at everything being snow covered and white. It may not last long since the sun has decided to shine so it will only be a matter of time before it is melted and gone!

She Did It!

Well A did it....she is no longer in diapers:) YEAH!!! It only took about 5 times (over the last 9 months) to get her to the point where she didn't lose interest after the first 2 days. She wanted to go when she wanted to not all of the time. I didn't know what to do, I had tried everything I could think of; from rewards to "potty time" timers and nothing seemed to work until a friend of mine suggested to have her clean up herself when she wet her pants. If you know A's personality you know she is quite stubborn and strong willed and has to do things all by herself but after 2 times she decided she didn't like having to do that. She is so proud to be a "big girl."

Holiday Catch Up

Wow the end of the year is such a busy time. Always something going on, somewhere to go and people to see! From Halloween to New Year's we love the holidays :) The kids had so much fun doing the various different things...

~Halloween~

Z went dressed as a Police Officer, A was Cinderella and S was Pebbles. Z was able to wear his costume to school but poor A was sick the whole week so she wasn't able to participate. But that didn't hinder the amount of candy we had in the house!

~Thanksgiving~

We were able to go to Utah this year. We decided to make it an adventure...packed the Entourage, loaded 3 kids and lots of goodies and were on our way. Thanks to good weather we made pretty good time, and the kids loved all the different "nature sights" they saw. It is always so much fun spending time with family. Z & A couldn't get enough of their cousins. Z wanted to play in the snow and fortunately the day after we got there it did snow so he got his trip to Utah wish...but only for the day, it ended up melting and we had good but chilly weather the rest of the time.

~Christmas~

We kicked off December with the parade, it was soo cold but fun. Downtown Franklin has so many activities throughout the year so we decided to enjoy "Dickens of a Christmas" which included meeting some of the characters from Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. Z & A had their first school Christmas program, afterwhich Santa stopped by and they were able to tell him what they wanted. It was fun to hear them practice the songs @ home prior to the program...they absolutely LOVE to sing. S even joins in when we start singing! This year we spent Christmas in North Carolina. Every year I tell myself that I will get my shopping done before the week of Christmas...maybe next year!! And as always Santa found us...boy is he good ;) Z got a remote control fire truck, A got a pink cozy coupe car and S got a musical jungle gym. We got a new digital camera (our old one has been broken for over 4 months, so I've been using my phone to take pictures). I must say it is much easier using a camera and I forgot how nice it is to have all the available options to take great pictures. I was also able to help dip chocolates...it definitely takes practice! The fun part of the whole trip was figuring out how to get it all back!! It was like a puzzle trying to fit everything into the Entourage...but I have such a smart and creative husband...he did it...of course I didn't doubt him for a minute. :)

~New Year's Eve~

We rang in the New Year with some friends! 3 of the 4 kids made it to about 10:30 but since A had taken a nap during the day she made it a little later but not quite to midnight and like usual all three (Z, A & S) were up at their normal time New Year's morning.

The Holidays are such a wonderful time; spending time with family and good friends, lots of fun activities to enjoy. But I am most grateful for the extra time to think about and be thankful for my Savior, Jesus Christ and what His presence on earth means to/for me. What better gift than Him and his sacrifice. All too often I get caught up in thinking about what I don't have I forget to be thankful for what I do have, I am truly blessed; a patient and loving husband, 3 children who see past my flaws and teach me what truly matters most, a testimony of the Gospel, its teachings & principles and so much more.

School, Birthdays and Much More

Here are a few pictures and updates of the past month and a half. Time just keeps slipping by me, I am definitely busy with 3 kids but add school and that pretty much sums up any spare minute I might have. I love being busy but it definitely takes its toll.

Z-man:

Started Pre-K this year, can you believe he could start Kindergarten next year?! He is learning to write his name, he knows 'Z'. We also enrolled him in an art class twice a week. It is good for him, he absolutely loves them both. When he comes home he says to me, "Mommy, I don't have time right now...to clean my room....I have homework." Crazy he already knows what that is, he is excited about it now but that won't last long. He is not a little boy anymore. He has grown up so much and in so many ways but no matter how old he gets he will always be my Bubby Boo. He turned 4 this year and wanted to do a birthday party with friends....we did a bowling party which the kids enjoyed and then celebrated as a family that evening. I asked him what he wanted for dinner since it was his birthday he could decide. He chose Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. He has loved tomato soup since he was almost 2!

Baby Girl:

My baby girl started a preschool program. She is quite the fireball and with her colorful personality she needed to be involved. She absolutely LOVES it. She is our little Mother Hen and she is such a girl. I pulled out my old Barbies so she could play with them....she has so much fun with them even though she doesn't quite know what to do. She loves watching the movies Barbie "stars" in, her favorite is "Princess and the Pauper" she loves singing the songs from it and can even recognize a certain one when I whistle or hum the tune. She really likes when we turn music on and dance around. It is funny because she has to go put a skirt or dress on so she can spin around like a Princess.

Little One:

My little Sunshine. She is growing TOO fast but don't they always? She has experienced so much in her almost 5 months of life. We have been battling fevers every two weeks since she was 5 weeks old. With each episode she gets congested, which causes a runny nose, throat irritation and aggravates her reflux. Poor girl...she is quite the trooper. For the most part they are low grade but twice now she has had a 24 hour period where they have reached to 104.2. Unfortunately we have no idea what is causing it all. The good news is all the tests done to this point have come back fine. She is scheduled to see a specialist, hopefully we can get somewhere and atleast pinpoint what could be causing it all. She is our little chatterbox. She tries to keep up with Z & A and wants to be running around with them...all I have to say to that is "Watch out" once she starts she is not going to stop. She started oatmeal about a month ago and loves it. She now reaches for anything we are eating. We have also given her a little bit of squash (which she seemed to like) and bananas (not sure what she thought of those). She is starting to sit up on her own though not for long. She loves playing in her exersaucer, I think mostly because she can see what is going on.

We also celebrated Mike's birthday! The kids' favorite thing to do is go to Dollar Tree and get balloons, decorations and other goodies to decorate his desk at work! Of course I enjoy it too! We are blessed to have him in our life...such a wonderful husband and daddy ;D

August Fun

Where did Summer go? It was a busy August. The kids and I spent 10 days in Raleigh while Mike spent the majority of the time in El Sugundo. We drove over on a Thursday, then Mike left on Sunday and returned Saturday, then we drove home the following Monday! And what a drive...11 hours on the way there and 12 1/2 on the way back. I forget how much longer it takes with kids, especially with an infant but they all did great.

When we got home Mike left the next morning to spend the rest of that week in San Antonio. By the end of that trip I was definitely exhausted. Oh the joys of being a Mom:) but seriously I wouldn't change it for anything.

We decided to cut A's hair to get it to thicken up and hopefully become even on both sides although her right side continues to grow much faster than her left side! Her new look is absolutely adorable and fits her well.

It has been quite busy since S was born. Honestly where has the time gone. She is almost 3 months and recognizing so much. She loves to be sung to, she even sings along, with her cute coos and other noises. She smiles a lot but of course it has been hard to capture it because she stops and stares when the camera comes out. She is holding her head up so well and loves to “swat” and grab toys or other things in front of her and has definitely become quite the chatterbox. Z & A adore her, they can't quite get enough of her; they always want to hold and feed her and love it when it is play time with her. We are so blessed to have such great children.

(We had a little scare when Samantha was 5 weeks old. She was in the hospital for 2 days, but how grateful I am for the Power of the Priesthood)

While family was in town Z & A absolutely LOVED being able to play with their cousins! It was so wonderful to have them out here to be a part of S’s blessing which was July 5th. She had 2 of her 3 Papa’s stand in the circle, 2 of her 3 Grandmas were there, 2 of her 7 Aunts and 4 of her many Cousins. What a special day for her!!!

This Summer has been a busy one. With the birth of S we have had a lot of visitors and enjoyed the time spent with family. Also going and watching Z and his T-ball games. We had a lot of fun cheering him on and meeting a lot of new friends. A can't wait to play next year.

We are SOO excited to welcome our sweet baby girl (S) to our family. She was born June 5th @ 1:46 pm, weighing 9 lbs 7 oz and 21 1/2 inches long. Z & A have anticipated her arrival for a long time now. The excitement that filled the room when they first met, shows how much love they already have for their sister. We are so grateful to have such a healthy baby. Already we can tell that she has such a calm & loving personality. We LOVE having this sweet little girl and special spirit a part of our family!!

My Baby Girl is 2 years old!! We were looking forward to this past weekend for two reasons...to celebrate A's birthday with the added bonus of beautiful weather, which we definitely took advantage of by going to the Zoo on Saturday. It was a lot of fun and tiring both Z & A were worn out by the time we got home. That evening we went to some friend's house to have dinner and the kids absolutely loved being there. Quite the eventful day!

Sunday we went to church and this was the 1st Sunday that we didn't have problems with either Z or A going to Sunbeams or Nursery...YEAH we have definitely made progress with that hurdle. After church we baked A's cake, she chose Elmo, and while they were taking naps Mommy decorated it. Of course yummy dinner and the best part of all....presents and cake & ice cream. A even started singing to herself as we sang "Happy Birthday" to her. It was a great weekend and we all loved the time being together as a family.

1st Outing

Between the weather and then a rotation of the flu we have been stuck in doors...but this past weekend we were able to go out for the first time since moving!!! We wanted to take the trolley around the city and into downtown but after a 1/2 hour wait and still NO trolley we decided to go back and get the car. Z kept asking where the bus was and was not happy about having to ride in the car so we will have to take another opportunity to ride! We went to a ceramic studio where the kids were able to choose something to paint and walked around the different boutiques located there. After we stopped for lunch at a YUMMY burger joint! It is always enjoyable to spend time as a family.

Have you ever had those days...sometimes even weeks or longer that you just can't get it right? I've never been one to outwardly express when I am having one of those but it just seems like the past little while I have been struggling for whatever reason and haven't been able to put my finger on it. As you know we recently moved and have been getting settled into our new place. Sure that alone can be overwhelming and a stress all it's own but it seems to be more than that.

Sunday we attended our new ward and were welcomed with an outpouring of love, just what you need in unfamiliar territory! During Relief Society we had a lesson on Finding Joy in the Journey by President Monson. As the lesson was presented and comments were made I realized... that is exactly what I have been lacking. The fact that I take simple things for granted not realizing that "opportunities come and then they are gone." All too often I am too busy with the things that I think are important that I miss out on those that truly are. President Monson quotes, "You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you've collected a lot of empty yesterdays." As a mother, moments of overwhelming inadequacy and frustration often get in the way of me recognizing how truly blessed I am to have two healthy, beautiful children who I love more than words can describe yet I don't show it like I should. They truly look past all my flawes and weaknesses with unconditional love and patience, no wonder we are taught to become as little children. "Our realization of what is most important in life goes hand in hand with gratitude for our blessings."

I guess I needed to write my thoughts down to better help me understand that I need to enjoy each day as it comes and although yesterday may not have been perfect I can only work on today so tomorrow will be!!

A few moments of free time....allowing me to catch up a little on Sizemore happenins'.

We found out near the beginning of December that we will be moving to Tennessee!!! Mike received a promotion and along with it came a transfer. It is truly amazing how the Lord has directed each step and decision we have made the past few months. In the Spring we were hoping to purchase a house but nothing seemed to work out. So for over 6 months we have wondered what to do. All along the Lord was preparing the way for us to be in TN. Can you imagine the hassel of trying to sell a house with the way things are now in the economy?! This is not the first time I have directly seen the Lord's hand in my life but am sure grateful that he is mindful of me and my family. We are so excited to be going there, we have heard nothing but positive things. Mike has already started his new position and the kids and I will be headed there next week so we can find a place to live. Then in two weeks we will pack up the truck and officially move!!

It has been almost 4 years since moving to NC and we have met some amazing people who will remain forever friends. Change is not always easy (especially for me)but starting this new chapter of life will be an adventure of its own.

What's New...

I know it is a "bit" late. I don't think I have gone over a month without a post but what can I say? We had a good time at the few different Halloween events this year. We went to two Trunk-or-Treat activities.

Then on Halloween night we camped out with friends. It was something unique and different than the usual trick-or-treat stuff...Z & A absolutely loved it. There were about 7-8 families so instead of going from house to house for candy the kids had to make their way around to each tent which had a game or some kind of activity for the kids to earn the candy. With a hayride and ghost stories around the campfire...it was quite a fun and exciting night (not to mention FREEZING) but definitely worth it all. There is nothing like a hot breakfast after the chilly night and no food tastes as good as when it is cooked outside. While breakfast was going on, Z was standing around the fire and tripped, he fell backwards into the fire, which covered him from the top of his head just past his bum. I can not believe how quick M got to him and pulled him out without any hesitation. Z was extremely blessed at that moment. He had a slight burn on his hip but nothing more. I know without a doubt that he was watched over by our Heavenly Father, to not have received worse.

One more bit of news....Baby #3 is on his/her way!!! We are due June 10th. Z & A talk about the baby in Mommy's belly all the time, yet I don't think they quite grasp the whole thing, not yet any way, maybe as my belly grows bigger!

It's the Great Pumpkin

I just love the Fall. It is my FAVORITE time of year. The weather is becoming bearable and we have a bit of time before the cold really sets in. Also how can you not love & enjoy the view from color changing leaves all around. What a sight to see especially here where there are trees...EVERYWHERE!!! I must say that is all wonderful but the best part of it all are the farms, pumpkins and hayrides:)

This weekend we went to Hill Ridge Farms and had a blast. The weather was great, not too cold-not too hot and the time (of day) we chose to go was perfect. Just as we arrived the majority of the people were leaving! So we had a private hayride (pulled by a tractor which Z absolutely loved) a pretty personal train ride, lots of yummy Kettle corn and a pumpkin patch all to ourselves.

It was also a little B-day thing for M ~ Happy Birthday "M". ~ He was out of town all week and had to spend his birthday alone in San Francisco so we thought we would celebrate with him @ the Farm.

Birthday Buzz

Z turned 3 Thursday (9/25)!! I can not believe how much he is growing up and how quickly. M was able to take the day off (he actually had Wednesday through Friday for Bereavement-will explain in another post).

We started the day out by making his cake. When asked what kind of cake he wanted he said "D-ball hike." (Translation: Football). He helped me mix it and get it ready to bake.

Z wanted a burger and fries, so we went to lunch @ Chili's. Gotta love the simple enjoyment of kids and their food...plus the mess that is made!

We really wanted to take Z miniature golfing but it was pretty windy and rainy...and they only have outdoor courses (at least within our proximity). So we went Bowling. It was a "HIT" and I forgot how much fun it could be. Z's first turn...he knocked down all but one pin!! He didn't have much patience when waiting for his turn. He couldn't understand why he couldn't go all of the time. A also had a blast. She took a few of my turns as well as Daddy's. The first time she rolled the ball she started to chase after it. Fortunately Mommy caught her before she got too far. I didn't realize they made bowling shoes so small!!

That evening we had Nana, Papa, J & Sissy for dinner, cake & ice cream and of course...presents. A couple of months ago Z watched Toy Story for the first time and became obsessed with Buzz Lightyear so we did a little around that...okay not really, only a couple of his presents had anything to do with Buzz, but none-the-less he loved it all. I think of anything he loves opening the presents and blowing out the candles after being sung to. When the last present was opened Z & A had a blast playing in the packaging peanuts...I think sometimes they have more fun with the wrapping paper, boxes and stuff like that.

I have always been told that time goes by so fast especially when it comes to your children growing up...Now I know what was meant!

As you know Z started "potty training" over 3 weeks ago and I can say that he is officially done. He knows exactly what to do and has only had 3 accidents. He was ready for quite some time but didn't want to hassle with it and I wasn't sure I wanted to fight him. But now that it is done, it is quite nice only having one in diapers. Z also started preschool last week. His first day was on the 3rd and he absolutely LOVED it. I wasn't quite sure how he would do since his first days in Nursery were a nightmare. However, he had no problems. He was so excited and kept asking me when he could go to school. When we got there he told me "Mommy you go and come back later." His teacher said this was the easiest class of 3 year olds she has had. He looks forward to it each time. A was the one who had a difficult time with him going. She wanted to stay with him and didn't want to leave him there. She kept looking at his car seat and pointing inside calling for him. She LOVES being with him and doing what he does so it will take some getting use to. It has been good to have the one-on-one time with her.

A started Nursery at the beginning of the month. Quite the opposite reaction to Z. We just switched to the afternoon schedule so we will see how she does since she won't be getting her nap.

Since we have more time in the morning on Sunday I decided to try out the sponge curlers. After bathtime I had to bribe A with Skittles so she would hold still long enough for me to get them in her hair. I wasn't sure if they would work since her hair is so fine but as you can tell... it did. She is no longer my baby she is becoming a little girl/young lady (with an attitude to go with it).
As I watch Z & A it amazes me how much they learn and understand each day. It is neat how much they remind me of my Nephew J (one of my sister's twins) and my niece K. Certain facial expressions and the way they act at times...Genetics is so fascinating.

It's "Potty Time"

I am sure I am not alone in this...The past four days Z has been in the process of potty training! The 3rd attempt (and I must say, 3rd time is a charm)!! At first it was really tough, he was so defiant and did not want to be bothered with it all. Then we decided to set a timer for every 20-30 minutes so he would know (also to help Mommy remember). Each time the timer goes off he gets excited and shouts, "It's potty time." He is to the point that he no longer wants Mommy in there helping and says, "Go out, I do it myself." Of course A has to be in the middle of it all as well. She is now to the point that when she hears the timer she runs to the bathroom door. Quite a difference from our first two attempts. I know it takes some time and especially patience but so far so good:0)

Summer Lovin'

If H2O is involved...Z & A love it!

We went the a community pool that has a small shallow pool and a fun activity area where water is splashed in many different ways!

At first, Z just wanted to sit and "hang out" then he decided that it was a lot of fun!

No matter how many times you tell them not to; the favorite thing to do is drink it! A thought it was so neat not to use a cup.

Any form of swimming is always enjoyed!

Nana set up the pool for some backyard fun. Even if the H2O is cold Z & A love it.

Of course A drinking the H2O out of the pool, (she thinks it is a game when Mommy says not to).

Z was having fun dumping the H2O over A's head. (Gotta love big bro's)

Children's Museum (a.k.a. "Organized chaos")

Now don't get me wrong, it was A LOT of fun but chasing around two can be quite exhausting. The museum has it set up in age groups. For younger ones they have a huge section with all sorts of fun things to do, just like Mommy and Daddy do in the real world. From being a Fireman to a Postal worker, grocery shopping or fishing, from baby dolls to wheel barrels. There were even "big size" game pieces of Chess & Connect Four.

Needless to say Z & A LOVED it.

Remember when we were younger...the "spring horses" that never got old? Well Z & A love playing with friends...T, one of their friends, has one and all 3 of them had a blast riding it.

It is so great, the variety of things we have to be involved with. The best part I must say is being able to create memories that will last a lifetime!

Trek ~n~ 4th of July

TREK

It has been a week since our lives have slowed down...a little!! From June 28th-July 2nd M & I went with the youth in our Stake on a Pioneer Trek. We have been preparing for this for over six months as part of the committee and being able to "walk the trail" with the youth has strengthened my testimony of our Ancestors and their sacrifice. As we watched the weather forecast a few days prior it looked like we were in for a miserable time. However, the miracles of the Lord were definitely with us. Instead of experiencing 95+ degree weather and humidity...we were blessed with upper 80's, granted the humidity was still very apparent but what a blessing not to have the heat. Not only were we worried about the heat but for every day we were on the trek there was the chance for rain and I don't mean just a light drizzle but heavy T-storms and pounding rain, after all we are in hurricane season! We were blessed immensely in that area as well. Sunday night we did get a big storm with winds, lightning, thunder and much rain. Needless to say there were a few encampments that ended up soaked and hanging their personal belongings out to dry the next day but that was all we experienced. Isn't it so wonderful how the Lord works?! He tempered the weather for us.
We were with a great group of youth! Their strength in the gospel, testimonies and spirits taught me so much. It helped me to gain a greater testimony of not only what we were doing but of faith and trust in the Lord. It was neat to experience the Sabbath in the manor the Pioneers did. Church services lasted most of the day! Monday morning we set out on the trail, we were one of the last groups to leave camp so needless to say we were blessed to push and pull in the heat of the day. About an hour or so into our journey the men were called to join the Mormon Batallion and left us women to continue on our own. What amazing faith and strength of women when combined with the Lord. We had a difficult hill ahead of us and knew we could continue as long as we worked together. We continued for a few hours and pulled into camp around 4pm. We all slept soundly that night...exhaustion had started to creep up. Tuesday morning we were the first group out! Quite a bit different than being the last. We had to clear the trail for those that followed. This time we remained the majority of our trail in the middle of trees and bushes so there was a lot of work to do.

Because of a food epidemic that spread through camp the night before, many of us became "ill" or "passed away." We could walk on the trail with our families but were not suppose to help push or pull the handcart or assist in any other way, including any communication, that was tough. As we continued those who were sick, passed away and with those who were already gone left the group and headed down a different trail. At a particular point on the main trail there was a steep (and I mean STEEP) hill to go up. As we got a running start and headed up "Angels" appeared out of the trees to help accomplish this great task. Nearing the camp we had a bit of excitement as we stopped to listen to a Pioneer Vignette (these were positioned throughout the trail portraying some things and people who actually crossed the plains), a hive a Yellow Jackets were uncovered when someone stepped in their nest. I have never seen so many at one time. And they were angry for being disturbed. Out of 21 of us in our group, 10 were stung and not just once but multiple times. I have to admit that the Young Man who stepped on the hive actually sacrificed himself without even knowing it. We were helping lower the handcarts down a steep and rocky hill (on a pulley system) when he switched places with me on the rope....had he not have done that I would have been the one to step on the hive and having a skirt on who knows, I can not and don't want to imagine! Thank you Kyle:) What an experience to remember, the Trek as a whole. When we arrived in the "Salt Lake Valley" on Wednesday morning there were so many families there to greet and welcome us!

4TH of JULY

After coming home from the Trek we needed some catch up time. This was the 1st time that I have been away from 'Z' & 'A'.

It was tough but as long as I kept busy it was easier to handle. We have wonderful friends who were willing to take care of them. 'Z' & 'A' absolutely love their family and so I knew they were well taken care of and did not worry about them....I MISSED them like crazy. So instead of going anywhere for the holiday weekend we decided to lay low and just hang out.
We went to a firework show at the local High School, on the 3rd and then on the 4th we went to a children's parade, 'Z' took a lot of the pictures during the parade.
There were some festive people and dogs (That picture is for you Mom!!). That evening we went to Nana & Papa's house for a BBQ, games and more fireworks. 'A' sat in awe watching the fireworks not sure what she actually thought of them. But 'Z' did not like the loud noises they made (both @ the high school and @ home).
They loved the music and playing with all the kids. It was fun, relaxing and enjoyable to celebrate with family and friends.

Being a mom has been such a blessing! I have great little helpers. Both Z & A like to help do chores around the house, special projects or whatever the case may be, as long as we (mommy & daddy) are doing it they want to be involved. They also keep us busy with things they like or want to do!!

I am so grateful for my wonderful husband. He is such a great dad to Z & A. He is so patient and loving and is not afraid to be a "big kid" to entertain and make them laugh. They love him so much. When he walks through the door after work both of them get so excited you'd think they just got their favorite treat!!! He always lets them help him with a task or his "Honey do list" even if it takes twice as long to complete. Z & A love it when Daddy reads, cause he makes it much more fun with all his voices! When it comes to playing baseball or football, no one can teach them like Daddy! Thank you for all you do and bring to our family:) We Love YOU!

Thursday Z & A's uncle 'D' graduated from High school!! We went to the graduation ceremony, oh boy talk about heat...there was no A/C, add thousands of people on a 90+ degree day, yeah you get the picture!! After we went with the family to Carrabas... yummy, yummy. All growed up now and ready to take on the world...this fall he is headed to BYU-Idaho. We are so proud of you big T...Way to go!

What a Weekend

This past weekend it was decided we needed to get away for a little bit...Since living here (3+ years) we haven't seen much so we, along with Nana, Papa, Uncle "D" and Aunt "Sis," packed up and headed for the Outer Banks. What better weekend to go than Memorial Day!!! We decided to do the camping thing since neither M or myself have been in quite a long time. Z went a couple of weeks ago with M for the annual Father/Son campout, but A obviously had never been! We got in late Friday night and set up camp in the dark (no other way right?!)

Saturday we woke up to the rain and cold so our plans were a little altered. We drove to Cape Hatteras lighthouse, we decided since the weather was yucky it wouldn't be worth the $$ to climb to the top of the lighthouse and not be able to see past the rail so we went through the visitor center and M had a little fun with the kids to get some fun pictures while there. The rain only lasted a couple of hours we went and had some fun on the water and in the sand. Well M & I had fun in the H2O, Z & A didn't like it much, not sure if it was because the water was cold or they didn't like the waves. Z loved the sand but A didn't like that either, she had fun just chillin' on the "boardwalk." Sunday after attending church , by the way was completely packed...there was "standing" room only...in the hallways or outside. The Primary room, Relief Society room and even the kitchen were full of vacationers. Quite a sight to see!! Anyhow, we went to Bodies lighthouse on our way back to camp. We could only look from the bottom up the spiral staircase to the top. After our "Sunday naps" of course we take them even when camping!!! We wanted to go to a third lighthouse...Ocracoke Island. The only way to get to the island is to take the ferry. At first Z & A weren't quite sure they liked it and were okay if being held but that only lasted a few minutes then they wanted to walk around...holding someone's hand of course!! Ocracoke island is a cute little place with a lot going on. Monday...already! First off...clean up...UGH:) After that was taken care of we headed out. Of course we stopped at the beach for a little bit to gather seashells and get our feet wet. Then we were on our way back home.I must say it was a very much needed trip. Both Z & A loved the camping idea, mostly because they were outside the whole time and could get dirty and eat what & when they wanted. That is the luxury of vacationing....No rules!!! However, the highlight of the trip, for me anyway, was that I was able to have a Slurpee...two in fact. That is the closest 7-eleven to us and anyone who knows me knows I gotta have my slurpees:)

8 things you may not know about me...

1) I enjoy vacuuming. I guess that is a good thing since I have to do it at least once a day and sometimes even twice a day!

2) When eating a meal the food can not touch; mashed potatoes have their place, corn theirs, etc. And the worst is with hot and cold foods...that's a big No-NO.

3) When I sleep I always have to be covered. Even if it is hot I still need at least a sheet or light blanket.

4)When going over railroad tracks I still lift my feet...yes, to this day and even while I am driving!!

5)I have always wanted to run a marathon/race/5k but never have taken the opportunity to do so, maybe because it will show me how out of shape I really am.

6) At night when I sleep I have to face outward (I am on the left side of the bed), except when M is out of town, then I have to sleep in the middle of the bed facing the door (which is on the right side).

7) I don't like raisins & jell-o not because of flavor but because of texture.

8) I have an obsession with toes, not so much that I like them but because mine are crooked (I use to curl them all of the time) and so I notice others to see if theirs are straight or crooked.

Rain, Rain...Go Away

Don't you just love the Spring? With it comes warmer weather, trees and flowers sprouting their first blossoms and of course rain...don't get me wrong, I love the rain, especially a thunderstorm. We have been is such a bad drought I am grateful for what we have been blessed with.

Yesterday after dinner we decided to let them enjoy the rain. Usually they just get to watch it from the window but not this time. No matter if the sun is shining or the rain is falling, Z & A LOVE to be outside.

Mike just finished his MBA program!! April 27th was the deadline for all assignments to be turned in. It has been a long road but he made it. He took a short break (1 month) between completing his Bachelors and starting his Masters program. Yeah I'd say he's a little crazy (ok, I am right there with him cause I encouraged it). No seriously, I am SOO proud of him. He has had to juggle working full time and traveling, as well as his responsibilities as 11 year old scout leader and the responsibilities for the Trek we are doing this year as a stake. Both he and I are the chairman responsible for "training" the Ma's & Pa's (which will be the Priest and Laurel aged youth). It has been fun! But to be able to take care of all this and still have time available for me and the kids, how ever did he do it?! We are going to take a trip to Chicago in July so he can walk with his graduating class:) WAY TO GO HONEY!!!

Summer Fun...already

Can you believe our community pool has been open for two weeks now?! CRAZY:) Of course we had to take advantage of it. The weather seems to work out perfectly to go every Friday, so that has become our "swim day." The weather was GREAT but the water was FREEZING!! It didn't phase Z and A but I could barely keep my feet in the H2O. (We have a large pool and another that is 1 ft. deep for the little ones). I always say that my kids really should have been fish...they would live in the H2O if they could!

The simplest of things bring the most JOY. What is it about bubbles that kids enjoy?! No matter the kind; Z and A LOVE bubbles.

Reminds me of what we are always told..."become as a little CHILD." They know what life is about, they see things as they are. They see US for who we are! Isn't it our main goal to become like our Heavenly Father? No wonder children are the utmost and greatest example of how we can become more like Him and our Savior and what we are truly striving for:)

Easter

I am so grateful for the reason of Easter. What depth of gratitude I have for my Savior, Jesus Christ and his atonement and resurrection. Sometimes I find myself getting caught up in the "commercial" side of Easter and then am reminded of the true meaning and why we celebrate. What a blessing!

What a busy but FuN weekend. Talk about suGar overload!! We had 3 different Easter egg hunts for the kids. When all was said and done we had as much candy as you get during Halloween, well aLmOsT! Friday night we went to a "HuNt-by- FlaShLIgHt." What a novel idea and the kids LoVeD it. EgGs were hidden all over the yard, from the grass to the trees and the only way to spot them was by using the flashlight.Saturday Z and A colored eggs with NaNa and PaPa! Later that afternoon we went to a friend's house for the "traditional" Easter diNnEr and another egg hunt for the kids. The actual day of easter was spent with fAmiLY. We went to church and then stayed the day with Nana, Papa, Uncle "D" and Sissy. This egg hunt was a little different; Z helped hide the eggs but by his ExcIteMenT while finding them, you would have never guessed he helped!! At first A picked up one egg and then just wanted to sit and pLaY with it. Then she started taking them out of the bAsKet as they were put in. Finally she got the hang of it and would spot them across the yard and get eXcItEd to put them in her basket. Of course finding the "GoOdIeS" inside was the favorite part of it all but the bubbles were loved just as much and came in a close sEcoNd. (Easter Bunny gave them each a bottle in their baskets).

1. Being a Mom
I love the time I am able to spend with Z and A. They are the joy of my life. They teach me so much about patience, forgiveness and unconditional love. (Just to name a few).

2. Photography
My new found "hobby." I love taking pictures!

3. Music & Singing
Although I am not able to stay as involved as I use to, I do get my fair share. One of the funnest things to do; turn the music up loud and be goofy while singing and dancing with the kids.

4. Quilting
I am still quite the Novice but I enjoy it.

5. Fruit Smoothies...need I say more?

Happy 1st Birthday "Honey Bunny"

Wow! a year has passed so quickly. We celebrated A's 1st birthday on Saturday the 8th. The day started out great until we went to get pictures taken. The very first shot they took had both kids smiling and no problems. However; the next ones were quite a chore. Instead of just taking random shots of the kids the photographer waited to get the "perfect" pose, face, angle, etc. YEAH RIGHT! We are talking about taking pictures of a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old. Ha:) Maybe in a year or two. Once the pictures were taken we ended up waiting for another 1-1 1/2 to choose the poses since their computer "ate" the pictures and they had to figure out how to retrieve them manually. Talk about a headache but we picked the ones we wanted and headed home for the party.

We had Mike's family, and some friends of ours (Robinson, Bailey & Lozada-Rodriguez families) for the festivities. I think the other kids had more fun unwrapping the gifts than A did but once her "Bounce and Spin" zebra was put together we couldn't get her off of it (nor any of the other little ones!!).
When we put the cake in front of her she looked at it like "what do you want me to do with it?" She put her hands in but wasn't quite sure about it until she tasted it on a spoon that Mommy had given her.

Before too long she ditched the spoon and was all about the hands and feet! It was a busy day and we were all exhausted by that night! What a special day.

We missed having all of the family here with us but we hope you enjoy the pictures!!

Is There an Echo?

So, I really have to be careful what I say and do. Unfortunately I found out the hard way...Z hears and watches everything that is said and done. Oh boy! When I tell him No I use my finger and wiggle it back and forth while saying "no, no." I never realized I did that until I saw him do it to me when I was doing something I was not suppose to (I threw a piece of bread at Mike cause he was teasing me!!) Oops!
He copies what I do too. I was going around the house crazy this morning trying to find my debit card. I ran upstairs and was mumbling to myself (while retracing steps) and he was hot on my tail mumbling all the way and mimicking my every action.
Another time, I found him in my nylons. Obviously he realizes "Mommy uses these." I am not sure if he couldn't quite figure out how to get them on so he chose another option. The pictures are what I saw when coming into his bedroom. He had done it all by himself. Where does he come up with these things?! Definitely using his imagination.

It really is quite entertaining to watch some of the things he does and says. Gotta love 2 1/2 year olds.

Blue -or- Brown Dominance?!

It is hard to express the feelings regarding the passing of President Hinckley. What a bittersweet event. It is sad for those left behind but what a joyous reunion with his sweetheart. He will be greatly missed. How blessed we have been by his constant love and efforts for the welfare of all during his time of service.

Now that the new year has started, things have slowed down, or have they? Not with 2 small kids!! Christmas this year was exciting. Z understood a little about Santa and became obsessed with him, we watched "The Santa Claus" movies all day every day. Although when it came to sitting on his lap he wanted nothing to do with it!! A wasn't quite sure about who he was but didn't have a problem with him until Z started crying then she was done with him too. Z got a Geo Trax train set and A got a play gym that plays music and has a lot of fun things to keep her busy. Even though it was Christmas it didn't quite feel like it, what without the snow and all. That is definitely something I miss about Utah. But as always it was a fun time.

New Years Eve we had a few friends and their families over for games and goodies. Talk about chaos with 12 adults and 8 kids in our little townhome. It was so much fun. Z made it past midnight but was fast asleep by 12:30. A finally fell asleep around 10:30 maybe next year she'll stay up until midnight!!

Life in the Relief Society is busy, busy. We just finished a big "Emergency Preparedness kickoff" last week so things have slowed a little, that is until the next thing comes around! Our goal this year is to be prepared in every aspect; Spiritual, Food storage, etc. It has been a lot of fun working with these ladies. They are wonderful and I have learned so much from them. Mike was released from Elders Quorum and now is the 11 year old Scout Leader. He starts officially on the 22nd. He is excited since the majority of the boys will be those he taught in Primary two years ago!!

Life is good. Never a dull moment!
